Primary Partnerships

Calderstones School works closely with our primary feeder schools to ensure smooth transition from primary to secondary school and to offer primary pupils a chance to see what Calderstones School has to offer.

We continue to develop existing partnerships as well as looking for new and exciting ways to establish links throughout the community. The initiatives we run throughout the year offer a great way of preparing primary pupils for life at secondary school as well as providing prospective parents with the opportunity to visit the school and find out more.

'BIG school week' is a new yearly initiative where year 5 pupils visit the school and try out 'BIG school' lessons in our classrooms, laboratories and sporting facilities.
We also invite the pupils to take part in various workshops throughout the year such as our 'Wildlife Walk' and 'I Love Reading' scheme. This year we have also supported primary schools in achieving their ECO status by involving them in our Green Corner project and school allotment.

Involving the primary schools in sport is also a regular feature in our school calendar. Our students have the opportunity to be a part of 'Student Leadership' which focuses on being positive role models and how to mentor others. Using their new leadership skills, the pupils of Calderstones help to introduce our school to feeder primary pupils. Subject specific links between the schools are also a common occurrence and these offer benefits for primary school pupils as well as provide staff with CPD opportunities. We also feel that it is important for our primary partners to be able to benefit from our extensive community and business partnerships and our feeder primary schools are able to use our facilities or borrow equipment for use at their schools.

Calderstones School also annually sponsors an award for each Year 6 presentation ceremony. This award is presented to a pupil who is a fantastic role model and someone who always gives their time and energy to help peers, staff, the school and local community. We feel it is important to acknowledge this achievement and is reflective of our positive ethos here at Calderstones School.

We will be hosting further similar activities with our local primary schools, throughout the year so look out for information on these. If you would like to discuss a future partnership then please do not hesitate to get in touch.
