Parent Testimonials

Since starting in September 2024 my daughter has been offered an array of opportunities at Calderstones. Those include numerous afterschool activities, supporting with the school production and performing at the Cavern Club.

The school really nurture the individual and see the gifts and strengths in the children.

As a parent, I’ve been really pleased with the positive experience my daughter has had during her first three years at Calderstones. She’s thoroughly enjoyed the wide range of sports the school offers, especially football, and takes great pride in representing the school in various competitions.

The school’s partnership with Everton in the Community has provided her with valuable opportunities to develop her skills further. One of the highlights has been her selection to represent Team England in a football tournament in Mexico next May—an incredible opportunity that reflects her dedication and the support she’s received.

We’re also very proud that she’s recently been chosen as a Sports Leader at the school, giving her the chance to contribute to community sports events and grow her confidence and leadership skills.

When my daughter was in primary school, she often worried about what secondary school would be like. But now, in Year 8, when asked whether she prefers her secondary or primary school, she answered without hesitation - her secondary school. That simple response speaks volumes about her experience at Calderstones.

Like most new starters, she needed a little time to find her feet, but she’s now formed a close group of friends and feels right at home. Academically, she’s growing in confidence and always feels supported. The teachers are approachable and genuinely caring, and the school’s pastoral care - including the wellbeing hub - has been excellent.

She enjoys most of her classes, but I’m especially pleased to see how much she looks forward to cooking. Since starting those lessons, she’s become more open to trying new foods than ever before, which has been a wonderful change to see.One of her favourite parts of school life has been the encouragement to take part in music. She loved being involved in music classes and was especially proud to perform in the end-of-year show at The Cavern. What a brilliant day - and such a boost to her confidence! It was amazing to see her, as a Year 7 student, happily performing in front of older students, staff, and parents.

As a parent, I also want to mention how much we enjoy the regular email updates from the Headteacher. They’re full of humour and heart, and it’s clear that he’s not only a highly involved leader but also someone who genuinely cares about creating a safe and inspiring space for every child.

As a parent, you always hope your child will find a place where they feel safe, understood, and inspired to grow. For my daughter, Calderstones has been exactly that.

From the very beginning, the support she has received has been exceptional. As a young person with autism, she faces challenges that aren’t always visible — but the staff at Calderstones have never made her feel unseen. They’ve taken the time to really get to know her: her anxieties, her passions, and her unique way of looking at the world. That has made all the difference.

Whether it’s the sensitivity of the pastoral team, the quiet encouragement of her teachers, or the small daily routines that give her a sense of structure and calm, Calderstones has created an environment where she can flourish. Most importantly, they’ve helped her believe in herself. Her confidence has grown, and her voice has found space to be heard.
