Applying to University
Every year the majority of our 6th form students apply to university. Our 6th form team pride themselves on giving excellent support and advice to students who are considering university as a future option.
Guidance starts very early in Year 12 with our school induction which is held at Liverpool John Moores University on the first day! We work closely with all of the local universities, offering bespoke opportunities in many different subject areas; in school and on campus. As part of the Shaping Futures consortium, we also gain access to many funded opportunities to help students decide if university is the right choice for them.
Shaping Futures also support our HE Week at the end of the summer term. During this week we suspend the timetable and have academics from a variety of universities attend to deliver lectures and seminars to our students on site. We also spend a day at Liverpool University and Edge Hill University so students can compare a city based university to one based on a campus. We also encourage students in the 6th form to attend open days of the universities that they are considering applying to as well.
For our most academic students we have developed a close relationship with Oxford and Cambridge Universities so our students are made aware of the opportunities studying at one of the world’s most prestigious universities can bring.
During the summer term of Year 12 all students attend the annual UCAS conference in Liverpool where they can speak to university ambassadors from across the country and pick up literature about the courses they are interested in.
Form tutors will then work tirelessly to give bespoke advice to each student to help compose an excellent personal statement and an outstanding university application.
The UCAS website has lots of very useful information about the application process and an excellent section for parents which can be found here.
