Video Introduction:
What is this course about?
The course focuses on the dynamic nature of physical systems and processes in the world, and the on the interactions and connectivity between people, places and environments. Students will develop a critical understanding of the world’s people, places and environments in the 21st century. The course will excite our students’ minds, challenge perceptions and stimulate their investigative and analytical skills.
Course Content
This qualification is linear. Linear means that students will sit all their exams and submit all their non-exam assessment at the end of the course.
Component 1: Physical geography
What's assessed:
- Section A: Water and carbon cycles
- Section B:Coastal systems and landscapes
- Section C: Hazards
How it's assessed:
- Written exam: 2 hours 30 minutes (120 marks)
- 40% of A-level
- Question types: multiple-choice, short answer, levels of response and extended prose
Component 2: Human geography
What's assessed:
- Section A: Global systems and global governance
- Section B: Changing places
- Section C: Population and the environment
How it's assessed:
- Written exam: 2 hours 30 minutes (120 marks)
- 40% of A-level
- Question types: multiple-choice, short answer, levels of response, extended prose
Component 3: Geography fieldwork investigation
What's assessed:
Students complete an individual investigation which must include data collected in the field. The individual investigation must be based on a question or issue defined and developed by the student relating to any part of the specification content.
How it's assessed:
- 3,000–4,000 words
- 60 marks
- 20% of A-level

Geography provides a useful background for many careers, including:
Teaching, Travel and Tourism, Transport and distribution, Environmental and Ecological Planning, Town Planning, Administration and Management, Landscape Architecture, Cartography, Marketing and Logistics, Geographical Information Systems Officer.
Entry Requirements
A grade 4 in Geography GCSE and grade 4’s in both English and Maths.
